Artist's Comments
This was done as a sort of exercise. I wanted to do a pic with fine liner and see how well I would do, since I'm generally a bit hesitant about media that can't be erased (acrylics, markers, fine liners etc.) and I want to improve my traditional media skills.
I thought that coat would be an interesting challenge. As you can see, the stripes went all over the place. I should have drawn some guide lines in pencil first, so that they at least would have been all of the same size. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this. It's a good likeness (I think) and I particularly like how the light on the left side of his head turned out. This is Jóhann Jóhannsson, by the way, an Icelandic composer and one of my favourite musicians. This was the most interesting pic of him I could find. Listen to his Odi et Amo here: [link] (Brian and I attended that gig). Graphite (2B, 4B, HB) and fine liner (0.2). Sepia tone added in Photoshop. Reference: [link] |
