Tea by Finnguala Tea by Finnguala
Whee! Kiriban picture for :iconwiggsly:! She requested canon Dr Watson and Sherlock discussing a case over breakfast. This started out a just a sketch to get the composition right, but it turned out so nice I decided to turn it into a full image. There is a huge crease in the paper (cause I was really impatient and tore it from the paper stack with too much force) running from Holmes' feet to the upper right corner, though, Wiggsly, so in stead of giving you the original I will get you a print! Hope you like it!
I tried very hard not to make Watson look like Jude Law. It was very difficult :giggle:

Graphite and Photoshop.

Lovely... however, I don't like it as much as I would if it was the BBC-Version ;)
But that's just me. :P

Lovely drawing!
The crosshatching and shading with the graphite gives the whole drawing a very nice vintage-y-grungy character!
Nice shading tecniques btw!
You have kept the focus in a triangle that goes from their faces and down to the table, letting the main composition become more dynamic as the very bottom of the drawing is very flat (it works great!)
But when your eyes travel around in that focus-triangle the shadow on Holmes' face and on Watson's jacket-sleeve looks a bit strange.
Those are the only things that are shaded like that (lineart, very light, hard border then shadow)
Maybe it needs to be softened a little?
I dont know...
But non the less the style of the drawing and the drawing itself really overwhelms that tiny thingie so it is not anything bothersome!
(You're very talented!) :D

Oh my god, you're right! The more I look at Holmes' face now, the weirder it becomes :XD: I was trying a new sort of sketchy style here, but I guess out of habit I shaded certain areas differently. Also I remember getting a bit annoyed with the shading on Watson's arm, cause I was using cheap ass printer paper that's way too smooth and slippery for the kind of pencil I was using :giggle:

Anyway! Thank you so much, I'm flattered by your praise :flirty:

I'm just happy that I can share my thoughts without being burned to death xD (weird people on internet is weird)

(And yes printer paper is evil!)

Do people ask you for your thoughts and then get angry at you? I wouldn't have asked you for your opinion if I couldn't handle negative feedback, now would I ;p

I don't know how I didn't see this one before. Love though!! I am such a sucker for Holme and Watson. Funny.. is this how you pictured them when you read the stories (the ones you did read in school)? This is very close to how I pictured them :D

Hmm, I don't really know, I read them in my first or second year, so that's five or six years ago. For this drawing I had a look at some old illustrations like this one: [link] Very pleased with how this turned out :3
