Username change

1 min read
This is just to let you know that I'm going to change my username Finnguala to my real name. I've thought about it for a while, because Finnguala has been my online moniker since I started using the internet and I'm kind of attached to it, but it's sometimes difficult for other people to remember and spell (no shit :D) and I want people to find my gallery here more easily.

Exhibition!

2 min read
This afternoon I am putting up the work I have created over the past months in the exhibition space, where it will remain until December. I am strangely nervous about it. This is my first real exhibition ever, and it makes me feel exposed. Haha. I am used to having the internet between myself and people's judgement of my work. The thought of being in the same room with people who are looking at my artwork makes me feel weird. But you know, I have always been a pretty shy and awkward person and I want to be free of that, so exhibiting my work is exactly what I should be doing. I admire people who are able to be exposed and vulnerable without shame or fear. This all sounds a bit dramatic, maybe. It's just a couple of drawings. They are not even controversial or shocking. It's not even a real gallery that's hosting my work. But I'm nervous all the same.

I did enjoy the preparations for this exhibition. I didn't have a lot of finished traditional pieces that I thought were good enough for an exhibition, so as you have seen I've spend a lot of time creating new work. I have noticed I can be much more motivated and productive when I am working towards a particular goal. Sure, it's nice to have the freedom to create whatever you want, whenever you want, but apparently I need a big stick to get anywhere.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm hosting a small opening reception. Might upload some pictures later if I manage to take some nice ones. Hope you are all well.

Last year I was contacted by a Swedish production company who asked me whether they could use my painting of Ólafur Arnalds in a documentary they were making. Of course I said yes :D It has been finished now for half I year, I think, and it's been screened all over the world, but I never got the chance to see it. It's now available for download on their website and I just spend half an hour watching bits and fast forwarding and rewinding to look for my painting (because I wasn't 100% sure it got included in the end). I can't tell you how exciting it was to see it, and to see my name in the closing credits :excited: From what I've seen and heard it's a very good and interesting film, and relevant to anyone calling themselves an artist. Go watch it!
